Couple #11: Ron Shulkin

For our first date we took a romantic evening walk in Century Park. We both felt the electricity when we paused to have our first kiss, as the sun set on Big Bear Lake. I donated a bench to the VH Park District with a plaque to memorialize the moment I presented it to Peggy the following Valentine’s Day.

A large willow tree fell on and crushed our first bench, but the Vernon Hills Park District graciously put up a new, sturdier one, with the same plaque honoring our romantic spot.
We have a tradition to camp out on our bench, steal a kiss, and watch the Vernon Hills fireworks every year. One year we had to show our driver’s licenses to a couple sitting there to prove we were “Ron & Peggy”, so they’d share the seat with us!

Check out our bench if you walk around the lakes. The plaque says,

Great Romances Start Here!
      Ours Did Fall 1995
          Peggy and Ron
